guitar pro 6 vs tab pro
Anyone used either of these very much? What's the consensus? Are they any good? Which is better?
I know there are plenty of free tabs available on sites such as ultimate guitar and guitaretab, but find the accuracy of these very variable. I follow quite a few tutorials on youtube too, but prefer to read tabs than watch videos to learn new material. Thanks |

I am a GuitarPro user.
What I like about it is that it can be extremely easy to use just to read already made tabs and it can be very precise and complete if you are writing your own tabs with it. The learning curve if you want to use it as a writing tool much depends on how much time are you going to put in it, as always. And finally it has what I think are the most life-like guitar sounds, compared to other similar proggies. What I dislike about it is that the demo will only read the tabs it comes fitted with and there are no "light" or bare-bone versions for students. So if you're looking for a software tab just to read tabs made by others then I am sure there are cheaper alternatives as good as. If you are planning to write your own tabs I would go for GuitarPro. Having said all this, take a look at Tuxguitar. It is very similar to GuitarPro in many ways but it is FREE!

I'm a long-time Guitar Pro user, and I love it (on version 6 now). That said, I think Tux is great -- and "free" is a heck of a price. If Tux meets one's needs, it's the perfect solution, especially as it likes Guitar Pro tabs, of which I have thousands... If more horsepower is required, GP6 is an excellent choice.

Where's the best place to find existing GP6 tabs?
I recently started using GP and although I don't feel like I've come to the top of the learning curve, I have been able to enter tabs. For me, it's a great way to write down what I've come up with or even help compose something. Cary |

I've been using Guitar Pro on Windows for several years. It works just fine with exception of a few rarely used features, mainly in multi-voice scores (stems placement, beams etc).
Guitar Pro can import PowerTab files - there is a lot of them on the Internet. I haven't found anything better in this price range. I saw some guitar scores created in Sibelius, but it's much more expensive than GP.
