This is my experience as well. Elliott capos are my favorite hands down for clarity, ergonomics and function. I have used them as high up as the 9th fret with no problem though I usually do not go above the 5th fret. I have used them for so many years that I find them simple and effective for what I look for in terms of a capo.

Best,
Jayne

I think 7th fret is about as high as I've gone. However, because I have fairly large hands, anything about the 5th fret tends to get very crowded and busy for me.

Do lots of 1-2-3 some 4th and a few 5th fret. "If I had A Boat" is the only song that I go above 5th (actually depending on how my voice is doing I play it at 5 -7 or 9

Same here for this song that sounds great at the 7th.

A couple of are "Everything I Own" by David Gates and Eva Cassidy's version of "Fields of Gold" by Sting.

I get all sorts of grief from other guitarists when I capo "Here comes the sun" on 5. As if I'm flaunting sacred tradition.

What can I say, little darlings? I'm a bit more baritone than George.

Funny how some guitarists are more worried about other people's technique than their own

As I stated, I play If I Had a Boat on the 5 th or 7 th as much as on the 9th like Lyle

I capo the 9th fret for my current cover of a song. It works just fine. It has a mandolin like sound with a bit more low end punch.

I use it on the 6th and 7th fret as well as the usual lower frets. Just fine.

Its really for vocalists....there are keys you can handle and how that octave works with your voice. You have to capo until you find the right range that not only lets you sing the highs and lows, but sounds right.

I use the 9th on only one song, Long Time Gone by CSNY.....I do some very interesting drone chords there that crossover mandolin and guitar...

How far a capo should be used up the neck depends on the neck of the guitar and the width of the capo.

My guitar requires a 12 string Paige capo to go past the 6th fret without being too tight on the neck.

There is no correct capo, it depends on those two factors.
