Default John Walker: J-185

A beautiful interpretation of a classic Gibson J-185. Notice I said interpretation...not clone. While obviously taking inspiration from the classic model, John Walker has taken this design a few steps forward imho. All the dimensions are similar (and posted below) but the tone is head and shoulders above any other Jumbo i've ever heard. It has a short scale (24.75) yet the bass notes retain a fullness and punch that you would expct from a longer scale. The tone has a familial resemblance to the jumbos of yore, yet has a fullness and balance that a more modern design brings to the table. And maybe that's exactly what sets this one apart...the tone is not exactly traditional nor exactly modern, but right in the middle. I think it combines the best of both worlds, which is perfect for a fingerstyle player like myself. Even the aesthetics (as you can see) fit in that description. It obviously has the dimensions and traditional shape, yet many of the design elements have a more modern beauty. Things such as the tortoise binding that extends around the neck and peghead (also around the soundhole, which looks super sharp), the nickel Waverly tuners, a pickguard that does not cover half the guitar, the subtle shading/burst on the back of the eastern maple headstock. The neck has a nice full C shape that many of the older Gibsons are known for. Why am I selling such a great guitar you ask? Because I purchased a L-2 interpretation from John Walker and my shoulder much prefers the smaller size body. It's also a killer guitar. John Walker is just an amazing builder! It is in Fantastic shape (dare I say mint). The OHSC is also in good shape and comes with the original description tag. Price: $SOLD PayPal and I'll cover shipping anywhere in the Con US. Specs below:

Top: Adirondack
Back: Western Maple
Neck: Eastern Maple
Scale: 24.75
Neck Carve: Full C
Nut Width: 1 & 3/4 with a 2 &1/4 at the saddle
Serial #: 89

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for looking.

Thanks, Jeff. I really appreciate that! His L-2 that I got from you is stellar as well! It's my main squeeze at the moment. And how is the collings treating you?

Thanks for all the kind comments, folks. I can assure you the tone is there to match the looks! As for the build year... After doing some research on AGF (many members have Walkers) I can deduce pretty accurately that this one was built in 2010/2011. Though you'd never know that by looking at her. Thanks for the interest.

And I should make it known (I apologize for not placing it in the ad originally) but I'm not really looking for trades as I have everything I need currently. I do appreciate the offers though. Thanks,
Hart

Bump for a great builder! I have one of John's Adirondack/Maple Wise River (14 fret slope dread) builds. Love it. Good luck with your sale. Beautiful guitar!
