Default "From Clare to Here" by Ralph McTell (cover)

This is a 1976 Ralph McTell song about an Irishman far from home working at a tough job and missing his home country and people. A YouTube subscriber commented on my version of Ralph McTell's "Streets of London" recently that I might consider doing this song.

"From Clare to Here" is new to me, but I liked it right away. My mother was Irish and her grandfather came to America to work in the coal mines of Pennsylvania until he could afford to bring his family over the ocean to be with him. So while I have never been an immigrant myself, I can feel some of this longing through my ancestors.

Thanks for listening!

- Glenn

Nicely done - wasn't familiar with this song until I heard Nanci Griffith's version many years ago.

You may enjoy her take as well.

Thanks Todd!

I appreciate your watching and taking the time to comment! Nice recording from Nanci Griffith. I hope all is well for you during this difficult time, or as well as it can be...

That was just beautiful, Glenn! Once again.....that Olson!! LOL!
Very much enjoyed hearing this tune as I didn't know it. You seem like you've got a groove going with turning out songs right now!!
All the best,
Fred

Thank you Fred!

I'm not sure I am into any kind of groove regarding recording songs because I'm having to struggle to find something new to do. After recording 165 songs on my YouTube channel, I am running out of ideas. It's a good thing so many people make suggestions.

I'm glad you like that Olson. I have finally become very comfortable with this guitar. I should put some new strings on it, but I have been so ridiculously busy lately...

Thanks so much for listening and for your comments Fred!

Glenn,
Always enjoy your work. This song is new to me but the words took me back to my youth. A woman named Claire was my first love when I lived in the UK. BTW also enjoying the nice background.

Suggestion Box
Everyone has recorded Somewhere Over The Rainbow, especially after IZ hit with it years ago. I always thought When You Wish Upon A Star was just a nice and carried the same feeling.

Thank you Jack!

Your comments are very much appreciated!

You know, I had a girlfriend named Clare, also -- way back in time when I was about 16 years old. A very sweet girl.

And thank you for your song suggestion. I have never tried to play and sing "When You Wish Upon a Star." The song always reminds me of the beginning of the Walt Disney Show when I was a kid. But in fact, it is a beautiful song.

Let me mess around with this for a while and see if I can do this without embarrassing myself.

Nicely done! Heartfelt and enjoyable, even if a bit melancholy.

Cheers

Great job Glenn!
That kind of picking is what makes a song like that live!

Thank you Dave!

I'm very pleased to hear from you! I hope all is well for you!

Yes, the song is a little melancholy. Seems there is a streak of that in the Irish.

Stay safe out there Dave!
