My wife is getting a new left knee in 10 days. I think I'm sweating it out more than she is...

Knee replacements are much better these days as well. Is the surgeon using a robot?
As you have probably already heard, the therapeutic exercises are key to a quick and effective recovery

Amazing stuff.
Don't do any more of that "I can walk without it" stuff! I want you back on the Assisted Living circuit with me as a duo partner, not a patient!

Congrats on the *successful* hip replacement, I read your original posts about it beforehand, I didn't comment at the time as my wife went through it, & let's just say , whatever could go wrong, did go wrong, MRSA infection followed by pulmonary embolism, she's okay now but it wasn't nice for her, and it definitely stressed me out. glad everything worked out well for you.

Sorry to hear that. I'm sure glad she's ok.
So far, at day 6 post surgery, things are progressing nicely. The pain eased, I am walking quite a bit and no other issues to report.

My hip replacement was done on the 12th. I went home the next day. I couldn't believe it when the nurse pulled that foot long drain out of my leg! Yowza!

You're doing better than I am. Last night was my first of comfortable pain & nightmare free, sleeping - And, not driving my pard out of our bed from my groaning & moaning. I can walk too - For approx. 10-25 ft. w/o my walker.... However, my 1st PT appt. is Friday, so maybe I can catch up with you later somehow?

Ain't modern medicine incredible?

Don
Did you have the robotic surgery Don?
Not every surgeon employs the techniques used by my guy. For instance, he does not cut any muscle in the area to access the hip. He "separates" it.
My actual incision is only six inches long. Right before he closes up the incision he injects pain-controlling meds into the surrounding area. Once that stuff kicked in I had no pain down there for two days. When it wore off, I had to take the Oxycodone/ Acetaminophen combo. I have limited ingesting that to bedtime only and I've been taking just 650 mg of Acetaminophen every four hours.
My therapist was here yesterday. He ran me through the range of motion tests and checked my walking. He told me I was as good as most people are two to three weeks after surgery. It's been one week today.
I ice the wound twice a day for an hour and do my exercises. The sooner I can get back to full-blown usage, the better!
Hang in there pal! Everyone recovers differently.

Welcome to the metal hippers club Rokdog (and Don)! Glad your recovery is going well. My left hip replacement is now just over 11 years old and still going strong. Hope you get the same results I’ve experienced.

Unless you mean the operating table, no robots were used? Mine was the anterior method too. I'd guess most are done this way now? I can sleep without pain, or pain meds, but my mobility is still lacking 11 days after surgery... I suspect by Monday, I'll be able to drive?

I wish I was one of those people who practically dance off the operating table, but still feel improvements daily....

3-29-2019 Update two weeks post-surgery.
Got the staples out today. The surgeon says looking good.
Walking without any assistance and using stairs. The pain is minimal .
Therapy is over and I'm told I'm ahead of the curve.
