Default grand auditorium same as grand symphony??

in the wood and steel it says that the grand symphony is "slightly bigger footprint and deeper body than the grand auditorium". then it shows the body depth of each at 4 5/8". how can it be that way? i have to think that they would proofread their own publication but who knows??

I don't think that's what ManyMartinMan said. Each of the series (GA, GS, Dread, etc. ) is different. What you refer to does sound wrong and in need of proofreading. Absolutely, the GS is wider in the lower bout, but I do not remember the depth of either.

Is the 4 5/8" depth constant throughout its length in both guitars?

Yes.
The Grand Auditorium has a 16" lower bout and 4 5/8" body depth.
The Grand Symphony has a 16 1/4" lower bout and same 4 5/8" body depth.

Yes, but is the taper from the neck block to the heel block the same on both? If one was deeper at the neck block but the same at the heel, it would still have a deeper body.

Yes, the official specs are a bit deceiving. They appear to be almost the same size. But when you have them in your hands you can definitely feel and hear the difference.

I think they used to have the 'waist' dimensions on the website, but they don't any longer, but you can see in the pictures that the GS has a wider waist.

The GA and GS are different beasts, and if you did a side-by-side you can hear the differences. I passed twice on Grand Symphonies. If I had more money or less willpower, I would have owned at least one of them today. Both were 816e rosewood models, a used one from 2016 and a new one from about 2012 or 2013. That new one had a burgundy stain on the top, and looked lovely too.
