Postage Rate Increase 1/27/2019...

Do some here think criminals don't know mailing checks and private data are main uses of the postal service after junk mail and package delivery? Mail boxes get cruised for theft, and same for containers of snail mail.

While I mailed a package at Christmas, I can't remember the last time I bought a stamp or mailed an actual letter-sized anything that only required a stamp.

What's the old vs. new price? Outside of Christmas cards, this could possibly be a two-digit financial impact over my lifetime.

I mail a lot of stuff. I use stamps.com. It's like having a personal post office. I can do everything a post office can do except, except send registered items.

My wife pays as many bills as possible by mail and a few are paid by auto debit from our checking account. We do as little financially as possible on line and no banking transactions.
The day is coming where we won't have a choice.
As far as the cost of a stamp, a nickel more means nothing to me, no matter what I'm buying.

Yes and we are also quite aware of people hacking into our computers and stealing money, credit card info, identity and so on.

My OP was supposed to be a public service announcement of sorts which I knew would not be pertinent to some of you. I'm glad that some of us could avail ourselves of lower cost postage while the comments of others reminded me of Patrick Henry's line from The Story of a Patriot (which has been showcased at the Colonial Williamsburg Information Center since 1957):

"There are those who would accuse me of sedition were I to suggest opening the window on a sultry day."

PS - The Story of a Patriot launched a young Jack Lord into subsequent starring roles as Stoney Burke and Steve McGarrett....

We mail 8,180 of our magazines per month. The postage went up $46.85 :/

Not much to say, even though it's the second highest cost in our overhead, at $1,322 a month it's still a bargain.

Forever stamps remind me that it's a good idea to own things that benefit from inflation over the long term.

They can't even be bothered to put the price on stamps anymore because they increase too often. Yikes.

Did appreciate the heads up, though. I do use the mail on occasion.

The way I look at it. We have places where the demographics are very different. By our cabin I also get a better view of the postal service as a public good.

We're long past the days of my youth when transportation was regulated and most economic cycles trended up. I figured the forever stamp concept cuts a lot of overhead and frustration.

I know a business owner who bought natural gas storage, fleet surplus, and he converts his delivery vehicles. To you point, there have been some cycles when he's done really well to have bought his fuel early and his delivery vehicles from motivated sellers.

We think of buy low for stamps but to be honest, mostly think to have some on hand so we have the convenience of getting them at COSTCO checkout vs end of day or rush time standing in line at the post office.
