Default Huss & Dalton TOM-M Custom Thermo-Cured Sitka/Australian Blackwood

Australian blackwood is one of these mythical woods. Given its limited availability and recent advancement in esteem among fine guitar makers, many are very curious about the particular qualities it imparts. That said, It’s very much its own thing. It’s denser than Brazilian rosewood, but has the color and figuring of Koa (both are members of the acacia family). Tonally, it falls somewhere in between Mahogany and Rosewood. It reflects solid bass, defined mids, and a lively top end. Similar to Koa, but darker.

Huss & Dalton clearly assessed these characteristics and matched it up with a body size and top wood that they figured would be complementary. Boy, were they right. This is a very classic and classy guitar with that extra something special. Just because it’s louder and associated with the pre-war cannon, doesn’t mean Adirondack is always the best fit. Sometimes simply “old-school” Sitka is the perfect top wood. In this case it pairs with the graceful mellowness of the Blackwood beautifully. This is the ideal guitar for singing with. It harmonizes so seamlessly you might forget where its strings end and your voice begin.

“This Huss and Dalton was custom spec'd with a beautiful piece of Australian Blackwood for the back and sides, and has a sitka spruce top. It is very lightweight, and the Blackwood gives it a very crisp sound with defined highs and a warm bass response. This OM features the same flat-top construction style as the TOM-R, and appointments like tortoise-style body bindings and simple dot fretboard inlays. One of our favorite looking and sounding pieces we've had from Huss and Dalton yet!”
