Default Two LaConner offerings

I refuse to say two for the show
One of these guitars is a persimon Round Peak. (Its big and rounded like the mountain it was named after). It’s going to have a cedar top and maybe a little subtle burst to complement the darker tones of the persimon. 14 fret neck, 25.5 inch scale with a sound port and arm bevel. I put lattice bracing on the back with rosewood caps to make the tap tone a little crisper and it seems to have worked quite well.

The other is a 00 patterned more after the old Gibson L-00 than the Martin. At least the Gibson was my inspiration for the design. (Now that I actually have an old Gibson L-00 I can see that it was a little bigger.)

Both of these guitars will have an elevated fingerboard extension and carbon fiber braces to relieve the upper bout from any support duties and hopefully get it in the sound making game. This box will be topped with Englmann spruce, have a 12 fret neck with a 25 inch string length.

There might be an oak parlor in the works.

Smile Design elements...

As I recall, John, everything but my oversized back bevels and the slightly pinched waist was your idea in the first place.
(Or maybe Tim McKnight's, thanks Tim)
I just went for your ideas.

And I am VERY Glad I did!

Carry on and have FUN

Paul

Is that more black and white ebony on that 00? Both of those guitars are going to be spectacular, and I'll bet the oak will be pretty special too. Post more pics, please!

Beautiful guitars there John. Hope you have a very successful show.

FWIW, I've found that I no longer need the FB extension on the neck blocks when I use the CF buttress braces. The CF buttress braces really free up the soundboard area above the sound hole, as I am sure you have discovered by now? I do add a very thin cross grain Popsicle strip on the top, 1/2 way between the upper transverse brace and the neck block, just to stave off any chance of the top cracking adjacent to the FB.

Thanks Tim. I always get inspiration and structural ideas watching your build sequences.

Does your FBE touch the top or is it elevated?

It’s glued. I’ve never done an elevated FB extension... yet.

Similar to my brother. I have been bolting mine down and now am thinking to completely liberate the top by floating the FBE

Smile Flying Fretboards...

Hey John!

Aren't the FBs on my last two Round Peaks completely free floating? Or is there a bit of join at the edge?

Whatever you are doing it is working!!!

Thanks Luthiers!!! You make the world a more musical place...

Paul
