Listening, versus hearing, was my upbringing.

From Father And Son, the Cat Stevens song lyric "From the moment I could talk I was ordered to listen." did not escape me because my own pop drove that point home about every aural facet of life. It characterized me in public life as the quiet, more reclusive one in a group but that could not have been further from the truth.

Music satisfied that more in me than with anyone else I knew, or know, and using it as the white noise people need to carry on in their daily undertakings bothers me. As a player very much focused on delivering a musical message to be listened to, the notion that it's only white noise to a restaurant patron kicks the art form to the curb, IMO.

Thanks for the memories.
