Default picking options? 12 fret dred, radius and cutaway?

Having a 12 fret build done, its starting!

Was thinking to add a cutaway? I have not seen a 12 fret cutaway, But thinking it would be a good Idea

The build in question is being done Martin style, slot head, 1 3/4" width neck, short scale, large frets

Looking for radius recommendations, Builder would do the 16" that Martin uses but I was thinking maybe 12"

Any comments, recommendations?

Too much radius on an acoustic gives the middle strings more power than the edge strings and affects unnecessary balance issues. IMO, of course. Compound radius can be a solution, but a 16” radius works very well, and it is my standard too.

Smile 12 fret cutaways….

John Kinnaird has built me SIX 12 fret cutaways, all with arm bevels, sound ports, and the last three with Manzer Wedges. All but the first with 25”scale, too.

Build threads of mine and many other fantastic 12c guitars galore here in the custom shop.

I am 70 now and have been playing music for a meager living all my life. My goal is to keep at it as long as possible! Or longer…. Hahahaha

Go for the Comfort, stay for the tone!

Cheers

Paul

PS:
Trust Bruce Sexauer’s recommendation!

I have a number of 12-fret guitars with cutaways and a straight fretboard radius of 16” works fine as does a compound radius of 14”-18”. As Paul said, take a look around the AGF Custom Shop forum and you will see MANY examples of 12-fret to the body guitars. I actually have a build thread for a 12 fret 000 with a cutaway ongoing now that provides specifications in the initial post if it is of any help…

I'm a fan of 14"-18" as well; on 1 3/4 or wider nuts
