And here's the rosette on my Buendia Jumbo (for some reason Chrome won't display my image but it shows up fine in Safari & Firefox. Go figure.) Here's the URL for the image.

I agree, and here's mine from a few years ago.
Jim, the same thing was happening to me. It's because your site isn't secure. If you switch over to https, Chrome will render the image.

Congratulations Howard!

Leo's guitars are wonderful, I see he's just moved into his own workshop too - great stuff!

Leo never fails to impress...and yes! As much as I miss traveling...another trip back to the Moon is NOT too budget friendly!

Thanks mate! What a coincidence that both my Gaffney and Buendia are the first to come out of their new shop, I can't wait to visit Leo in his new space. And I look forward to put this one in your hands next time I come back for a visit!

Default Bracing time

After all the rosettes are finished, Leo begins to brace the tops and backs, follow by rough carving the braces, which normally takes him around 2 weeks to finish a batch of 3.

Every luthiers have different steps to brace their top, Leo put on the finger braces first as he likes to tuck them under the X brace, you can also see there's a solid ring of spruce inlayed behind the carved rosette to strengthen the area. Later on he'll glue on the soundhole patch and soundhole braces to further reinforce the area.

Both backs are braced! Leo doesn't use those dyed black maple reinforcement stripes as standard anymore, unless he feels the wood are a bit unstable and can benefit from them.

And...let's glue the tops on and start top voicing! One might ask, how many cam clamps and Q-tips do a luthier need?

More later, enjoy!

Label on and inside is sealed, ready to close the box. A wash coat of shellac really brings out the color and figure of those backs!

Gluing end graft and binding!

Now we have the box all clean up, almost looks like a guitar!

Default Sorry guys, here's more update!

My apologize for not updating the thread for the past 2 months, I got buried under tons of work. Anyway, now I have time so let's continue to share this journey.

Quick update: All 3 of the guitars were already off to get some shinny 3 weeks ago. The jumbo was getting the normal nitro treatment. Both the mahogany and mine were getting French polish, and since I want the FP to be harder, we asked Eric to let the finish cure at least 10 weeks, instead of the normal 4-5weeks. Hopefully with the extra time, Eric can have more time to pore fill and let the shellac cure a bit more than usual. Without further ado, let's back to some more Buendia goodness...

Luthier's version of arm day, no gym required...

The mahogany OM is getting an African Blackwood with sapwood two tone headplate, and mine will be Brazilian matching the back, both has ebony fretboard and EVO gold frets. Leo frets his guitar before sending them to finish.

Beautiful headstocks. I love that Leo continues to push his aesthetic. I especially like the second one.
