I started playing piano and accordion at age 6. So for me, learning piano, and music in general was no harder than anything else I was absorbing at the time. It was the BEST experience I could have had as a youngster. A lot like learning a second or third language at that age ... the brain is wired for learning.

Reviving an old thread here. I play guitar and a few other things AND took piano lessons for about 6 years when I was younger.

I just took the Sudnow cocktail piano course and it is fantastic in learning how to play cocktail piano and chord voicing. I highly recommend it. It's not perfect but it's very efficient. Also, I learned more about chords, chord theory and voicing in this 2-3 hour course than I have in anything else I've done in music.

Finally, it is only $25.

I’d like to hear from other members-how difficult was it to learn piano? I suppose a good teacher and effective practice time are the panaceas but what else can you tell me about your experience?
I had some lessons and I can sight-read chords with my left hand (or right, for that matter), but I mostly play by ear and figure out songs by listening to them over and over. For my own stuff I come up with a chordal structure and basically just improvise with that. I just play what I think sounds good. I don't think there's nothing wrong with that!

Here's a version of a Clapton instrumental I figured out....

And here's a piece I more or less improvised....
