Whenever I see a guitar I imagine myself playing it in my usual haunts: the local pub, the local open mic', friends house parties, a wet and windy clifftop campsite in Pembrokeshire.... With me Carter picking cowboy chord songs..... You get the picture!

Tatty clothing and a tatty guitar I just find so much more comfortable. I even look at my second hand plywood Godin 5th Avenue and hope that it will gain some signs of wear soon and not look quite so "smart". LOL!!!

But Wallace Stevens also made me search for blue guitars in general and a few archtops made the cut, including the Monteleone already called out by Howard Emerson.

Here are links to a few others:

An interesting new blue and brown combination by Tab Brown at Dream guitars:

Though I’m personally on the hunt for the Lollar equipped Eastman Romeo, I have first refusal on an incoming Romeo LA which is a beautiful Celestine Blue! Will update you soon. IMG_1650750193.387072.jpg

I played a Romeo a while back with a Goldburst finish. It played great and was light as a feather.

When I think of guitars with transparent blue finish, I think PRS. Weren't they the first modern builder to do this finish (circa early 90's). D'Aquisto was probably the first to build a fully carved guitar with this finish.

Rumour has it Eastman has a custom shop in CA. I don't see why they couldn't build you one of their carve-top guitars and finish it in blue.

I'm sure they've both faded a little bit, but haven't we all?

That's sure true for me. And I'm also turning a little green around the gills as well.

Thank you for sharing this. There was a time when I couldn't sit still for music like this, what a poverty of the spirit that was.

OK, I'll bite - care to explain? I have no particular affiliation - though I have seen and heard some of his instruments - but was caught by the characterization.

Blue is relatively common in solidbody color but on archtops it is few and far between with the exception of the Chinery Collection.

So, what say you... Is blue on an archtop a tacky novelty or a cool option to the usual blonde and sunburst?
I think the blue guitars in the Chinery collection look amazing! But I have never owned a blue guitar until I recently acquired a Stratocaster with a sort of reverse-burst blue color.

I could have been tempted to buy a blue archtop guitar because I think they look so interesting, but my wife really doesn't like blue guitars, so I have resisted.

My archtop is a fairly typical tobacco sunburst, which looks great, but... well, it's not blue.
