My experience is similar. Don't have any dreads, but I'm smitten by them on my adi/mahogany OM. Found them underwhelming on other guitars, especially rosewoods.

I like them on my euro spruce top. Honduran mahogany Iris OG, dry woody and nice chimey harmonics. Plus they last a while without being coated.

I’ve used D’Addario EJ-16s for 20 years. A month ago I tried the Nickel Bronze strings on my Taylor 814ce and I really liked what it did for that guitar. I’ve ordered more.

Is it normal to initially like a string for a week or two and then get out the guitar to practice and think, “something’s not right with the guitar and these strings”? That’s where I’ve suddenly found myself with my D41 and the NB. Friday night they just sounded OFF to me and I didn’t jive with them last night either.

Just finished my third experiment on my guitars with NBs. They don't work for me with what and how I play. I just find them too lifeless. 80/20s give me what I'm trying to get with the NBs.

I've had them on my Taylor 814ce since January. They have not been my favorites. Before that I was using EXP16 strings, which I liked. The NB strings have a more mellow tone to me. I have not given up on them, but soon will be installing a set of XS16 strings. I intend to try D'Addario NB strings on my Guild D50.

Prefer them on my Yamaha LL16 - sounds more mellow and less harsh than PB. They also last a long time. One less variable to worry about

D'Addario nickel bronze experimenting
I’m officially done with NB strings on my 41! I prefer to play songs in the key of C, Capo 5 out of the G shape due to an injury to my left index finger when I was a teenager. I cut the outside of the tip off and it angles inward versus rounded like a normal finger, which in turn makes it hard for me to play an F chord, because I can’t get a good bridge on the B and E strings. Practicing a song for Praise Team practice and these NB strings have NO BOTTOM END at capo 5! Totally Tinny sounding up there! Time to put a set of Veritas mediums back on it!!

Experimenting done
I put the nickel bronze on my Taylor 314. Left them on for ten days and took them off. I didn't like the sharp, steely (for want of a better word) tone. Definitely not warmer. Being louder than the PBs I've used, that accentuated the tone that I didn't like. Maybe I'll try them on something else later, but I can't imagine what. I splurged on Elixirs to replace them.
I've read in a few places that the NB are supposed to get closer to the natural sound of the guitar. What I can't figure out is how you can know that since a guitar only makes sounds with strings on it. How can you know that one kind of string produces a more natural sound than another? |

just slapped these on for the first time on my d 18 ,,,,fantastic strings but definitley not ejs or what I just had on them dads xs....they seem to bring out the crispness of mahogany . They are not a smooth string like phos. bronze. but also not brassy like 80 20s...great string so far..very alive and present

I loved the Nickle Bronze on my Huss TDR. But they died very quickly. I am mainly a coated string user so take that for what you will.

D'Add NB's are on my short list. Love them on my Bourgeois Adi over Cherry L-DBO and a Martin all mahog 000. Not bad on a couple of rosewood guitars but I prefer SCGC Parabolics or Straight Up Strings on those. Interestingly, I do not like the feel or tone of the "Balanced Tension" version of the NB's, just the "regular" NB's.

I've had NB 11-52s on my sitka/rosewood 6-string since the last week of March. Do they bring out my guitar's "natural voice" as they claim? That's anybody's guess, but they're perfectly good strings that are lasting me a long time.

Great results with these strings on my Adi/IRW Santa Cruz om/pw. Love the more natural, woody tone they give and the lifespan is brilliant. I’m on my 3rd set

I've had them on my Taylor 814 for a few months. I like them, but I preferred EXP's on that guitar. I am getting ready to try a new set of XS strings. I am going to give NB strings a go on my 1980 Guild D50. For some reason, I think they may be better suited on that guitar.
