I think this is such a great thread ^_^ I can see it from both sides the feeling of owning something that you just feel I'm awe off for me one day that will be an L-5 Wes if the custom shop start taking orders again or a CES flipped.
Being a lefty it's a case of grabbing what you can sometimes so from the point of view of being a lefty there's actually some nice truly epic guitars about like my 1956 Avri Strat lefty that I got an my latest gretsch G5420TGLH-59 which I'm in love with. I loved the Godin's I tried. I think as well reasonable guitars can be a way of getting the general vibe of an instrument the fit to your body like now after living with the Gretschs I know I prefer them to a epi les paul I've got size wise an when I get something similar dimensions to a L5 say a Broadway flipped n restrung itl be a great way of seeing if I like the 17" bodies without spending 10k+ which is unrealistic to afford at the mo being one of the younger members of the forum n when I got it I couldn't take it all over like I could say with a Broadway or another acoustic affordable ish Archtop. N it's like a epi sg I had I just couldn't get on with the body shape so the price hit on resell was only £100 which wasn't bad An I keep wanting to experience different pickups while I'm searching for what I like so it's an interesting proposition say having something reasonable with a CC pickup a Broadway with staple pickups a godin with a p90 an my Gretsch with its black filtertrons. Gives you different things to experience n want to make you play different things an guages come into it as well, 11 flatwounds on my Gretsch n 8 rock n rolls on my 1999 epi Les Paul Lefty currently for Peter Green/Danny Kirwan an bluesbreakers stuff On the flip side though finally getting that aspirational guitar whoah that's gonna be a moment an a half. |
