The GA body and light strings are a better fit for me. My 714ce (lutz/rosewood) is a year old and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I've also been experimenting with strings on it to find which ones check the most boxes for me. Long ways to go for that though. |

Yeah, it can suck to be a Canadian guitar player when having GAS, except when our $ is at par. I was only able to buy my 814c (and other gear) back in ‘02 when I sold my vintage ‘58 Strat (because I wasn’t playing it much anymore) to get better acoustics.

My favorite was the first Taylor I purchased in 2002. It was a 310 and I wish I still had it. I asked Captain Bill Nichols to make a truss rod cover with golden abalone inlay of my dog, Lucky Boy, a lab who had recently died. I kept the truss rod cover Captain Bill made (and still have it) when I sold the 310.

I've owned 4 Taylors, 310, NS34, 416CE standard, and a 2016 416CE LTD. All are great to play, but the LTD, with red cedar over claro walnut, maple neck and trim, is a special instrument.
Rosewood pickguard, Gotoh 510 tuners, it has a sweet, harmonically rich sound with a bit more lower mid warmth, unlike other guitars I've played. Much different tonality and dynamics than the std. spruce/ovangkol 416, which was more forward with a more prominent top end. Not a cannon, but wonderful subtlety and depth of tone, and gorgeous to see. Last edited by jonbee; 12-09-2017 at 08:40 PM. |

I own / have owned several Taylor's. My favorite is a tough choice between the all koa 424-LTD or the GS-K (flamed koa back & sides, spruce top). Probably the all koa one wins, although the tone of the GS-K is bigger and bolder. Plus it is non cutaway.
The best Taylor I have ever played, but didn't buy, was a 522ce twelve fret at my LGS last summer. Easy playing, comfortable size, and an incredible richness of tone. The only down side was the ES2 pickup system (yuk!). I would have been sorely tempted except for my desires to downsize / simplify and to move toward low maintenance carbon fiber. I'm trying to sell several Taylor's not acquire even more. |

A recent 310 or an older K65 12 string.

I've got a limited GC 12 fret spruce/walnut with maple everything else that is just sex on a stick gorgeous (pic doesn't do it justice) and sounds great, but my favorite is my plain jane GC5, cedar/mahogany.

My favorite is the '97 410 (hog b&s/pinless bridge) I sold a few years ago. It was my first all solid, higher end acoustic guitar - it sounded so good, and was a real canon - miss it very much. A strong second is my current 2014 810 - it's outstanding. Taylor dreads are highly underrated IMO.

Haven't owned a Taylor in a long time. But the old GS-7 was my favorite of the ones I've played.

I'm a dreadnought guy, an all-mahogany guy, and I think Taylor Guitars just keep getting better. So, I would choose a new 520e.

Hard to say, haven't played many Taylors. I will say I'm highly interested by some of the models currently at Sweetwater with ebony back and sides. . . just because it's something different.
There's an interesting "Sweetwater Edition" 714CE that catches my eye. |
