One piece of mahogany can be as light as Styrofoam, and another can be as dense as rosewood, literally.

It's pretty common. Not in Epi specifically, but in general. I have a Tele that's super light and comfy, and another one that I could use to drive railroad spikes. And they sound just about the same.

I had a Modern Player Plus Tele that was very heavy, but the ones I see/feel in the stores are much lighter.
