One piece of mahogany can be as light as Styrofoam, and another can be as dense as rosewood, literally.

Or, possibly they skimped on the hardware, and are using chromed zinc...

I had a Modern Player Plus Tele that was very heavy, but the ones I see/feel in the stores are much lighter.
