Tuner keys (knobs) for Alvarez Yairi Classical
Greetings,
I have an Alvarez-labeled classical guitar -- model CY116 (by Kazuo Yairi) which was made in 1991. I am quite fond of it. The plastic knobs by which one adjusts the tuners (also known as tuner "keys") are aging, and the plastic from which they are composed is cracking and disintegrating. I am trying to find replacement knobs/keys, as the tuner mechanisms themselves seem to work just fine. I do not know who the manufacturer was of these tuners. Any ideas would be much appreciated. |

I have not seen classical style tuner knobs for sale separately. These usually differ from the plainer style knobs used on most steel string guitars. Those plain oval plastic knobs are available from Stew Mac.
But..... I have swapped plastic knobs by removing them from another set of tuners. To remove the knobs, I heat the shaft with a soldering iron. Fitting the knobs to different shafts may involve some work on the hole in the knob using a Dremel. Once the new knob is made to fit, I use super glue to install it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9C_Ju-2cVAU |
