Almost all of my guitars are mahogany. I don't know how that happened it just did. The only exceptions are my two rosewood guitars, Avalon and Guild D-55 and my Seagull folk which is laminated cherry.

FWIW, cocobolo is a true dalbergia (rosewood) so you might want to modify your poll because it should fall under the RW (other) category.

It's been a long time since I haven't owned any rosewood or mahogany guitars. From those two, I slightly prefer mahogany. For the last five years, I've only owned sapele, ovangkol, koa, ebony(my uke) and my favorite tone"wood:" lyrachord

Default Koa

I'll take a Koa - Sitka Spruce combo every time!

I clicked EIR -- Most of my past solid-wood guitars have been Mahogany, which does very good for what it does -- but East Indian Rosewood, to my ears, carries crisper highs and deeper bass and presents more balance.

Smile Listening to the poll results (it took a while!)

Hi all,

Some time ago, I posted a poll asking for your favorite tonewood. I meant to specify for the back and sides, but didn't know enough about guitars at that time to indicate this detail.

I noticed that quite a few of you mention Mahogany as a favorite, which is a tone wood I have not heard in person much, nor have had opportunity to find one to audition.

After some experimentation and a couple Taylor customs, I decided to listen to the poll results, and add a Mahogany to the mix.

After hours of searching, I finally heard a recording of a Taylor Limited Edition with Mahogany and European Spruce that sounded fantastic, and decided to see how a new one would sound.

I might have to change my vote? Time will tell.

Thanks for sharing all of your opinions.

I voted non EIR, but did not mean Brazilian or Madagascar either. Although fewer in numbers I’ve been consistently amazed by both Guatemalan and Panamanian Rosewood examples. Lucky enough to have one Panamanian.
