Whoa, that IS a thing of beauty. I like how the Coco bevel compliments the burst. Or is it the other way around, the burst color compliments the Coco?
Whatever, it all works.

Steve

Thanks Deft! I think this one is over a year in the making but it has worked fine for me, and I think it has given John time to do other projects as well without me "dogging" him for this guitar. The longer time has helped us with design choices that seem to be working.

thanks Jamie. I appreciate your kind words as well. As John said, the proof of the pudding is in the tone, but I like my chances. You've tasted that pudding as well ...John delivers on tone every time.

Thank you Geoff! John sent me pics he had found somewhere of a guitar with a design along this line probably two years ago. I kept that picture and although that one had different woods, I like this wood combination equally well or better.

Thanks Steve. You Kinnaird boys both have the eye for color and appointments.

So here is the neck with the final coat of lacquer sprayed on it. After it cures it will have to be leveled and polished of course.

I’m thinking that the near black/deep brown finish will match the theme of the body pretty well.

That's beautiful. Love the look of this instrument, very inviting. Seems like the kind of guitar that makes you want to play and play and play.

ALL John's guitars I have been fortunate enough to experience make me want to play and play. Those with the multiple bevels allow me to do so in comfort!

The four I have owned and all those I have corresponded about have all SOUNDED absolutely first rate!

Fun will be had!

Paul

Come to B.I.G. 2020 and you can play several East Coast Kinnairds and Texas Kinnairds!

Silverfox, I'm sure that you would enjoy playing one. I really like John's guitars, but I've played and owned a number of others from various builders here and they are awesome as well. The guitars you own (in your signature list) are I'm sure really good and may indeed be best for you.

In my experience, I've owned and played a lot of really nice guitars from a host of manufacturers. Over the past 5-10 years I have A/B'd many many guitars and have found the probability of finding a great guitar is greater with boutique builders. Make no mistake, I've owned a few Collings, Martin, and Bourgeois that were really satisfying in every way.

Bottom line, I think you owe it to yourself to find out what is best for YOU. Go to BIG as Neomann suggested, take your best guitar with you and play it beside the builders you'll find there...they are some of the best in the business and all are well regarded here on AGF. One of two things will happen, you'll either be supremely satisfied with your guitar, or you may find something you like better. But by being there you'll get to hear the difference with your own ears and playing style.

Would love to come, but I'm located in Oslo, Norway which makes it a bit of a challenge to attend! However I did live in the US for a few years, and will certainly be visiting again in the future, so hopefully I'll get a chance to play some of these instruments (Kinnairds and others) at some point.

Thanks invguy921, your point is well taken. I am very happy with my current instruments, but I'm certainly open to the idea that there could be something out there that's an even better fit. Or just plain better . An event like B.I.G. seems like the perfect situation to explore several instruments by highly regarded luthiers.

I so look forward to hearing about how this beauty sounds. Cedar and African Blackwood can be such a rich tonal combo.

Best,
Jayne

That makes TWO of us Jayne . Ya know, in my brain I can just about imagine what it will sound like from experience of playing various guitars and wood combos, but the proof of the puddin' is in the tasting don't ya know. A few weeks from now I'll let ya'll know!

Thanks for the kind words Lizzard. I've never held a guitar with THREE bevels but certainly two make a guitar feel like a cozy blanket. That said, I'm really not convinced that the third will make that much difference in feel as I see it being just a cosmetic touch. But, who knows!!
