In Canada we have the 4-way stop. Completely misunderstood by most drivers here. A roundabout is actually an improvement. I really wish there was legislated mandatory driver training because every 4-way is an accident waiting to happen in this town.

We had one open a few months ago as a new freeway access just down the road from us. You should have heard the moaning and gnashing of teeth and rending of garments about how it was going to be a death trap. Turns out it works quite well and we have less traffic backup then on the cloverleaf interchanges North and South of us. I don't think they're bad at all.
