Default Taylor GS mini neck reset

Hello. I have a student with a GS mini. The guitar is folding up almost before my eyes. It's almost unplayable beyond the first position.
What's involved in a reset for a mini? I'm hoping it's a bolt on and not a big deal?

In my case, it was an apparently easy procedure that cost me $65 at my local shop. Still annoying, though. None of my other guitars has needed a neck reset so far. With the Mini, it only took 6 years.

The GS Mini has the same shimmed, bolt-on neck as their most expensive guitars. Simple reset.

Could the neck be coming loose?
Have you tried to tighten the bolts?

I would guess that you can find an authorized Taylor Service Center near-enough to you. Have them check it out. If you purchased it new the neck angle is covered under Silver warranty. If you did not, the adjustment is cheap.

Thanks for all the replies. This is not my guitar. I have checked and the neck is not loose. I'm wondering if this is something that I can do for them myself? If it's a simple shim removal or addition then that would not be a problem for me.
I'd like to help them as money is an issue.

Shims are only available when a certified Taylor repair center repairs the guitar.

A neck reset on my 414 was $130.00 at an authorized repair shop.

Get the right shim, i charge 145 for a taylor neck reset, and that includes polishing the frets, new elixir strings and a full setup

That's really odd. I wonder why? Do you have any ideas? This is one of the reasons I'm moving away from wood guitars. I would guess that layered b/s and 23.5" scale would make for a very stabile neck.

After doing a neck reset, will there be a slight gap at the joints where the neck meets the body. Or will it still be a perfect fit that is found on a mint and new GS Mini?

Default not obvious

No worries. Taylor necks/fingerboards are set into routed recesses in the body/soundboard just for the purpose of allowing shim swaps (they travel in complementary pairs, one for the fingerboard, one for the neck). Taylor's taken this into consideration. Hard to see with precision manufacture.

After a proper reset, like on most resets, you shouldn't be able to tell.

Subject to the issue being the neck angle and not the top arching from enviromental factors or sides collapsing.

If you have the right shims its just a simple case of shim removal and fit a new set of shims, if you do not have the shims then its a bit more complicated.

A mis match in the making or fitting of either shim between the heel and fretboard extension can result in a hump in the fretboard and make the guitar unpleasant to play to unplayable.

Steve

A typical set of shims
