My Anniversary...

Eight years ago today I quit smoking.

I used Welbutrin and the patch, but never made it to the lower dosage patches after finishing my box of 21mg patches. By the time there was a single patch left in that first box, I was done. My life as a smoker had come to an end.

Never had another cigarette after that...

Congrats! I gave up smoking about 7 years ago. I had a short 1-month relapse in the middle but got back on the straight and narrow again. It's amazing how easy it is to fall off the wagon even years later so well done on not having once since!

Congrats, no one that hasn't gone through quitting smoking can really understand how difficult it is.

That last time I quit was March 4, 2002. I had the day all planned out, ending with smoking my last cigarette in the grocery store parking lot on the way home. Got there, opened the pack, found there TWO left and felt like the luckiest guy in the world

After 30 years of a pack of Marlboro's a day, I quit on Aug 15, 2005.
I chewed the nicotine gum and Skoal for about two years after.
Folks gave me crap saying that I had not really quit.
I said that I quit smoking not nicotine.
I gave up the gum and chew around 2007-8.
I never had another drag off a smoke.
Hardest thing I ever did.

I loved smoking. Over the years I had quit for seven years once, eight years another time. In 2008 I had a TIA and quit for good. I can't imagine being sixty six as I am and still smoking. It'd be a disability at this age. It's nice not being addicted and having that nagging draw for another smoke all the time. I quit cold turkey. I had experience as I quit every so often, kind of. My smoking friends just say "well you can do that". The fact is you have to make yourself do it and do it and do it until you don't think about it as often. And even then you have to fight it once in awhile.

Quite honestly, once I decided that I truly wanted to quit, it was one of the easiest things I've ever done...

Same. Once I finally decided that quitting was in my best interest and that I wasn't doing it for any reason other than my own good, it was very easy.

I stopped cold turkey 15 years ago and the biggest adjustment for me was what to do with all the time I was spending smoking cigarettes.

Congrats. I’ve been there, too. I quit 27 years ago—and still dream about smoking.

I quit back in 1992, 28 years ago, I had started back in Winter of 1958. I was standing with my good friend about 5 ft. from her casket in the funeral home---she died of lung cancer. He told me that she left a half carton and he would bring them to me. I quit real soon after that after 33 years of smoking (Not puffing)---- it was still too late, I now have COPD, but it beats the alternative.

I quit back in the '80s. For many years after, I still got the occasional urge, especially after a good meal.

But that no longer happens. If I smoked one now, I think I'd barf.

Good job! My 19th anniversary of quitting will be this coming May 5. Just think how much money saved - enough for a lot of nice guitars!

Just found out recently that my ex-girlfriend (we almost married) from the early 80s has lung cancer. We both smoked regularly back then. She still smokes, even after the latest round of radiation therapy.

That is so critical. Never smoked BUT. Once I finally decide that drinking was not fun anymore and I wanted to quit for me and what I wanted to do . I was able to quit cold turkey, no weaning my way off ,no support group. nadda, zip, that was it. No white knuckling, no regrets, just done period....... And some 27-30 years ago, can't remember, doesn't matter

Congrats on the elimination of cigs from your life. I was happy to see it was THAT kind of anniversary vs the kind where you mark the legally based chaining of two people together. Those are the worst!
