Default best free for mp3

I need to record a few things and put them on my old Soundclick account.
I no longer have my old Cakewalk program and am looking for something I can down load that will save as wav. or mp3. Does Audacity give this option, are there better free ware audio programs out there for this?

Audacity can export as WAV and MP3, but not by default. You need to also download the LAME encoder. More info can be found here:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help...all&i=lame-mp3

Another good free audio editor is Wavosaur. It can also export WAV and MP3. I "don't think" you need to install anything else (it's been a while since I set it up on my computer and I can't remember):

I would recommend downloading both, try them, and see if you like one better. They are both small programs and free -- you can always uninstall them if you don't like them. I find that I tend to use Audacity for some things and Wavosaur for other things.

Hope this helps.
