I think that is quite a stretch...

I'd be happy to be wrong. I'm just a straight guy -- nobody told me anything about the meaning of the song, but once considered in the context I mentioned, it seemed to fit pretty well....
"Some folks got a bear across the hall."

"So meet a bear and take him out to lunch with you."
Gee, maybe I'm wrong. So I did a little research. Here's what one site said:

Quote:
And as to the meaning of the song? Was it included as a subtle, if absurdist, commentary of the life of a musical celebrity-- or as a loving tribute from a fan who learned guitar playing this song? Is it a wry paean to the inner beast lurking within us all? Or a humorous anti-prejudice anthem? In the end, perhaps, it may just a song about bears... (although when indie artist Mark Weigle sang it on his Out of the Loop CD, the term "bears" itself took on a different meaning in the context of Weigle's marketing to the gay community).
A commentary of the life of a musical celebrity? I sure don't know how they get that. "A loving tribute from a fan who learned guitar playing this song" is even farther from what I can imagine.

A humorous anti-prejudice anthem? I guess, maybe. Or "just a song about bears"? A pretty absurdist one for sure!

I was somewhat relieved that I wasn't the only one who related it to the gay community, but obviously that's only one way to look at it.

Wonderful treatment of a great song. I loved the electric texture you added. Really delightful rendition, thanks for sharing it!

Thank you Steve!

I'm really pleased that you thought this came out well! After the 2nd line of the song introduction, the electric guitar is not very loud, but it's here and there throughout the rest of the song. Same thing for that Mandocaster 12. I did a little picking on that thing throughout the song, but I kept the level fairly low so it did not overpower the main Martin 6-string in the song.

There is an electric bass in there, too, but again, the level is not overpowering, just enough to support the drums.

I appreciate your taking time to comment Steve!
