Songs that will get you thrown out...
A few years back, as a beginning guitarist, I was working on the first 32 measures of "Stairway to Heaven" while trying out an acoustic in the local music store. The guy working there said, only half-kidding, "Playing that can get you thrown out of a guitar shop!" I laughed, but quit playing. Question: what other songs can result in an abrupt ejection?

Two songs are notorious in guitar shops, and I've actually seen signs saying you will be evicted for playing them...
1) Stairway to Heaven 2) Smoke On The Water

Better Idea: Learn the rhythm part of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." If you're good enough, by the time you hit the chorus one of the shop guys will have picked up the guitar next to you to play lead.

It's a standing joke in music stores.
Lot's of people play that song and it's a good one to play to hear how a guitar sounds. It's just that many people are tired of hearing it in music stores. Never bothered me though. I still like to hear a good version of Blackbird and Wild Horses. Perhaps because I don't play any of them myself.

Dust In The Wind and Stairway seem to get some shade.

Don, as you may have gathered, these "get you ejected" songs are really more of a joke than anything else. I have seen music store employees roll their eyes when somebody cranks up on some rock guitar cliché, and, sure, they'll tell you that those songs are prohibited, but they're (half)-kidding when they say it.
The suffering saints of the music retail business hear a lot of truly crappy guitar playing day in and day out. So it's understandable when they get a little testy from time to time. But don't take it seriously; they still want to sell you a guitar (and a strap, and some strings and a tuner and a capo and a chord chart...) So play whatever you like. Wayne Campbell encountered the same issue in the early 90s.

If you can play it well, do so by all means!
I don't care how well worn a tune is, if it is well played, I will stand there and listen. |

One of my favorite Harrision songs to play anyway...I'll give this a try sometime. I wonder if it works with Something as well?

I never bothered learning it for 35 years until last year. Surprisingly easy. Then I stopped playing it, as my wife was giving me shade for it. LOL
She gives me alot of shade for Blow Up The Outside World too.
