Default AER, Fender, or ? for Chet Atkins nylon sound...

When Chet played his classical electric guitar he used a Music Man RD50. Well, barring the fact that they are hard to come by, and I'm not sure exactly if I'd trust buying a used one... which current amp would give me that "Music man" amp sound closest for my nylon electric?

What about the Fender Twin Reverb? Would an AER Compact 60 give me that sound? Anything else to consider? $1000 is my limit.

One word: Gretsch..
512x series should be possible with your budget.

If not, an Ibanez AFS-T would be a reasonable substitute.

I would think the Fender '65 Reissue Twin Reverb would be a good choice but I am biased in favor of that amp. Another one to consider would be the '65 Reissue Deluxe Reverb.

I was asking about amps. Already got the Gibson CE nylon guitar. Just need the amp.

The twin reverb would very loud. Unless you are playing large venues.

I've got a friend that plays a classical through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. It sounds GREAT. I never would have considered it until I heard it. Sounded great.

Since the Chet Atkins sound did not include distortion, the Twin Reverb would not need to be turned up to produce a Chet like tone.

You're right that Chet's road amp was the MM. Before that it was a Fender Deluxe. From what I have been told, Chet liked the MM because he liked the way his nylon string sounded through it. Chet's earlier recordings were made with the Standel 25L15; however the later ones were recorded direct; possibly through a direct box of some kind. I know, more information than you wanted to know.

The '65 Twin Custom 15 is a bear to carry around ( I own one); but it is a great sounding amp and my CE sounds better through that than anything I have played it through. Plus the fact that the Twin is close to your $1000 budget, depending on how good your dealer is to you. I carry the Rivera Sedona for my road amp but the Twin brings out the best tones for me primarily because of the 15" JBL clone.

Tommy Emmanuel carries the AER and swears by it; and as you know I'm sure, he sounds great through it; however it is different than Chet's tone.

The Standel 25L15 is still available and with a JBL D-130. The D-130, unlike the later E-130 and Eminence copy, has an alnico magnet.

The old classic....you get what you pay for.....

I have tried several acoustic amps.....

AER is simply the best....if you AER looking for the best acoustic sound....

It is not the cheapest....but it is the best.....

AER 60/2 Compact is the best bang for the bucket....

All from fingerpicking to Jazz........

Outstanding value even as used.......because you seldom seen one.....

Good Luck......
