Stopped at GC today and tried a Gibson Studio, Tribute and an SG. Also several Epiphone's including the 1959. I liked them all. I can see a LP in my near future. My wife wants to get me one for my birthday in April. I think that's too soon. I still need to keep learning on my Epi 335 and I want to try a Gibson 339.
I also tried a PRS and didn't like it compared to the Gibsons. Electrics are fun. Everyone should have a few!

They're expensive, they're heavy and I'm a weak person, and in all honesty the popular Les Paul image is one I've moved beyond now (distinct from maturing beyond,...just moving beyond). When I see a Les Paul, I ironically do not envision Les Paul The Man playing his Les Paul arrangements. I originally and still kinda do associate Les Pauls instead with the hard rock bands I listened to as a teen: Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Pearl Jam, Guns N' Roses. I just haven't listened much to music in that style lately, so superficially I'm not feeling a pull to go for that image. Maybe I'll change my mind when new makes it cool enough for me again.

I've owned about 5 Les Paul guitars and currently own two.
Smooth and powerful tone. Nothing can beat a Les Paul on that.

I was always a Strat guy (though my first "good" electric was a Tele Deluxe back in '76). I was in the Hendrix/Clapton/Beck camp rather than Page, didn't find LPs comfortable to play, and don't care for humbuckers most of the time.
Only recently have I gotten instruments with humbuckers and shorter scale - an old dog can learn new tricks but still likely won't get a LP. Totally ymmv.

I was working on an electric guitar arrangement of a vocal ballad last night, working up the vocal line. I started on the Tele and eventually wandered over to the Les Paul. As soon as I landed on the LP I was reminded of its strong suit: it does legato extremely well, it and the ES-335.

I've got a 2013 Gibson Alpine White LP Studio which I really like.
Sam Ash had a sale on these NOS models back in 2015 for $850, and I couldn't resist at that price. They actually had four of these sitting out, and I snagged the pick of the litter of the four.

I own a Gibson Les Paul (and a Songwriter and a Southern Jumbo) because Gibson is my last name. Seriously. For years, people asked me why I didn't own a Gibson guitar. They are so expensive, compared to some other models. It toook me until my 40s to buy a Gibson acoustic.
A couple of years ago, I splurged and bought a 60s Les Paul Standard (iced tea) and a Southern Jumbo (the best acoustic guitar I have ever owned). I don't play much electric guitar, and when I do, I'm not a lead guitarist, though I hack through some stuff on my Fender Telecaster. I just had to have this guitar. Besides the fact that my name is on it, it is a gorgeous guitar. My Telecaster is easier to play, but I love the tone on the Les Paul. I'm very happy that I bought it.

As someone who owns 11 Les Paul shaped guitars, multiple Gibsons, an Epiphone, and a few ESP and LTD, I might be biased haha. One reason to NOT get one however I would say is soloing. If play mostly rhythm and solos from older songs so less upper fret access needed. When I do play solos up high I grab a Fender, Jackson, or PRS that I have. So really the ONLY reason I can think of to not get one would be soloing a lot on the upper frets. Other than that Les Pauls are perfection....to me anyway. Good luck!
