inexpensive, flat-response mic?
what *inexpensive* mics can anyone recommend that have flat response over as wide a range as possible, say about 40 to 10-15,000 Hz? (I'll be plugging it into my Audigy-2 sound card.)

Yikes....um. Why would you want to go down to 40 but only up to 10k?

Tom:
This is for my guitar tone analysis software I've been working on...so I would like to be able to measure below the low E string (which is 82 Hz), and catch the harmonics, which from my analyses so far look like they go above 10 kHz. I've been using the Fishman prefix output up till now, but I'm assuming that probably isn't the best way to try to quantify tonal differences between guitars...so I need a relatively flat-response mic.

WOW....very impressive. I found the frequency response curve at the company's web site, and even though the mic is supposed to go down to 20 Hz, the response curve only goes down to 50 Hz. I'll bet the response falls off so much they didn't want to ruin the flatness of the curve.

Check out their C3 - I used one to record a lot of tracks for my band's upcoming CD. My other "main" mic was a BLUE Dragonfly.
