Default Laurence Juber on a 1928 000-45, whew!

Stumbled across the video that made me really wish I still used fingertips over acrylic nails. What an amazing player and guitar!

I had the pleasure of taking classes with Laurence a few years ago. After the first class, I seriously wanted to put my guitar back in its case and give up. Why bother, when he has forgotten more about guitar than I will ever know or be able to do. Awesome player and a really nice guy.

Showed that to the wife last weekend because I had met him at a breakfast place in Santa Cruz. He was alone, except for his Martin strapped to his back.
What a player!!

I was lucky enough to do a class with him, and I've seen him @ Taylor workshops back in the day...as well as at CAAS. On the nails - he said that he got tired of all the work required to keep nails in shape, and didn't like fake ones, so he worked to build up his calluses...and build his tone just using his fingers.

On composing, he said he tries to do things that sound "guitar-istic" - in that they can only sound that way on a guitar (cascading notes, hammer-ons, etc).

While he and Tommy Emmanuel both have great chops, they both focus on the music first, vs some players I see who play like 'see how impossible this is to play?' I think music wins over gymnastics every time.

Remarkable playing, indeed.

What's especially impressive about this virtuoso acoustic instrumental demonstration is that Laurence Juber performs that classic "In My Life" solo at full-on natural tempo--while Beatles producer George Martin actually played his original piano solo composition at only half speed, then sped the tape up for the final audio edit.

I have heard him play live many times on the Sunday morning radio show "Breakfast With the Beatles" that Ken Dashow has on Q104.3fm.
He seems a real class act. Very grounded and down to earth. I wouldn't mind a lesson or two from him.

They published tab to that arrangement in Fingerstyle Guitar magazine probably 15 years ago. I learned it, and it’s been one of my go-to pieces ever since. Even though I’ve been playing it 15 years, it is humbling to see how much better he plays it than I do.

I met him at CAAS around that time. Very cool guy.
