Planxty George Brabazon - O'Carolan Fingerstyle
Planxty George Brabazon, Second Air, is usually attributed to Turlough O'Carolan, tho it seems it may actually be an older tune. Certainly seems to fit O'Carolan's style in any case. I arranged the tune for my Peghead Nation alternate tunings course, and this performance extends my original take a bit.
I'm in "C Wahine" tuning, essentially standard but with the 6th string down to C and the 5th down to G. This is my Kathy Wingert Model E guitar, recorded with a pair of Schoeps CMC641 into a Sound Devices recorder:

Doug,
Wow, this is superb! I know this piece well because one of my daughters played her own arrangement of this piece on an Irish harp before she went off to grad school and got married. I love your use of harmonics in this piece. I also appreciate all the different approaches to the verses as you move through your arrangement. What a masterpiece! And what a beautiful recording and video, as well! Well done! - Glenn

Beautiful, Doug!
I always enjoy hearing you play your Wingert. I like to think of it as the 14 fret sister to my 12 fret. :-) Best, Jayne |

Thanks, Jane, I imagine ours are closely related - about the same age, if I remember?

I have your tab from the course, but without that beautiful intro. Could you sent me a simple tab of that intro, Doug? [email protected]. It would make my day (and this song complete).

Yes. I ordered mine right after the 2003 Healdsburg Guitar Festival. With Kathy’s waitlist, it didn’t get on her bench until later in 2004. Did you get yours at the festival that year? They do sound very similar. Wonderful that you are doing a transcription of this arrangement. Best, Jayne |

If I remember right, mine is a 2002. I used it on about half the tracks of my Laurel Mill CD, released in 2003. I had played a Model F at Steve Swan's and really liked it, not sure why I simply didn't buy that one, but somehow I ended up ordering one thru Mike Joyce at Luthier's Collection. Kathy suggested that for fingerstyle, maybe I'd prefer the E, and I took a leap sight-unseen on that. I may have even had mine at the 2003 Heladsburg, I'm not sure.

Very beautiful, Doug! I’ve never heard it called “wahine” tuning. Cool

There are so many things I love about this arrangement- the harmonic section is very clever, and I love the section about 2'40" in. You also seem to come up with really interesting introductions which really set the scene, and this one seemed to have a slight jazz tinge to it. Would love to have a go at this when you finish the Tab- please let us know where we can purchase it

Thanks for the interest in the transcription of this. It's up on my website now:
https://dougyoungguitar.com/tabs This is the extended version, intended to match the you tube video, including the extra parts beyond what I already had in a book and the Peghead course.
