Default Ultimate acoustic signal chain?

Starting with finger tips, ending with ears:

EML 1.5mm pic...retro monel 12-53s...OM-21...K&K mini pure...tone dexter...fishman loudbox artist...ears.

May not be the best set up in the world, but its the best in my little corner of the world. How ‘bout yours?

Dave

My early training as an electronics technician in the USN influences my signal chain choice with some lessons I learned working on radar, communication gear and nuclear plant control systems:

1. Every stage in the chain introduces noise and distortion.
2. Every stage in the chain introduces new failure modes, reducing system reliability.
3. Interconnecting cables, wires, connectors, etc. are a common and frequently overlooked source of failure.

So my signal chain is as short and simple as possible. Instrument > cable > acoustic amp with appropriate input impedance for the pickups used. In my case a Carvin AG300.

I'm using an LR Baggs M80 when I plug in. I have both acoustics fitted for it. The resonator is new. If I keep it I'll likely get a pick up for it probably the OEM "hot plate".

I bring a Tech21 Acoustic fly rig with me. It allows me to go straight into the house PA if necessary. Only used if needed. It's very handy.

If I'm using my own amp it's a Marshall AS100. Plenty of volume for anywhere I'd be playing. Can run two instruments and a mic for singing through it, or one guitar and mics x2. Lots of onboard flexibility. I like it a lot.

I guess the title got this moved to the amp room?? But the best acoustic chain is probably guitar>>ears...no cables, no amp, no mics! Im just as interested in what combination of guitar, picks, strings, as amps, pedals, cables...

Hi all

Guitar --> all flesh --> K&K Pure Mini --> ToneDexter --> ¼"/XLR out

My stage amps are UltraSound & PAs vary. My personal PA is a Behringer with 8 XLR inputs, and 1600 Watts output when bridged-to-mono, and a pair of Community 12 inch two way cabinets. It covers 250-300 people very solidly and the communities produce a really nice sound (slightly less edgy even when pushed hard).

I elevate the Community cabinets behind me/us, above head-high level, so they also serve as monitors. I don't need the stage amps if it's my system. If it's somebody else's system, I'll often run a stage amp…elevated about 18" off the floor and aimed up at the back of my head from at least 4 or 5 feet behind me.

I'm not knowledgeable enough to comment about what high end gear should follow in the chain, but for acoustic guitar I'd start the chain with a matched pair of Schoeps CMC 641s.
