looking for a low tension carbon high E (knobloch?)
Hi
I normally buy a 0.60mm Savarez Alliance string for the high E, this has less tension than the medium tension Savarez Alliance high E string which has a diameter of 0.62mm. The difference for me is noticeable, having a tension of 9.48 kg instead of 10.12kg. I also use the Savarez Alliance high tension B and G strings, and these feel much more similar in tension as a set of treble strings. The 0.60mm string isn't so easy to get. I was wondering if the medium tension carbon Knobloch actives high E will be a good substitute as I live in Spain and these are easily attainable (albeit more expensive). Unfortunately, it is hard to find information on their tensions and diameters. Does anyone know if the diameter of the knobloch actives carbon 1st string differs between the medium, medium-high, and high tension sets? For the moment I was just thinking of sticking to the Savarez Alliance high tension G and B strings, and buying individual Knobloch High E strings. Thanks

I have only tried the medium tension 1st string, which measured .024/.60mm. It wasn't for guitar but for a ukulele, since they basically use classical strings, just packaged for the uke. Great strings though.
Strings by Mail sells the Savarez .60mm string you are looking for though. They do ship internationally as well. They have an 800 number and Matt is always willing to help however he can. He has opened packages and measured diameters for me before, so I think he would do that for the 3 sets of Knoblochs (which he carries) as well Here is a link for the Savarez single string. He sells them in both 1 Meter and 2 Meter lengths https://www.stringsbymail.com/savare...ring-3359.html Hope this helps.

Have you checked out the Oasis carbon trebles? I prefer them over the Alliance strings. I think they are a lower tension.

Thanks for the replies. I'd prefer to buy locally if I can, and wouldn't mind trying new strings. Knobloch are made in my region of Spain, I have discovered. I could try mixing the medium tension 1st, with high tension 2nd, 3rd, all Knobloch trebles.
Do you know the diameters of the Oasis Strings? Have you tried the Hannabach Goldin? Does the 1st string feel much more tense than the other two trebles?

When you select a set you can see the diameters listed for the Oasis strings in the description.

Are you sure about the tensions? I'm seeing the 0.62mm Alliance treble listed at 7.86kg. Are you using a longer scale length than 650mm?
I really like the Dogal Diamante as a compromise between carbon and nylon, as they use a mix of the two in their trebles. I'm not sure which set I'd recommend though since I'm not sure about the tension as my questions above indicate. Their soft tension is 6.6kg for the high e, so about 1kg less than the reported tension for the 0.62mm Alliance. Quote:

EDIT: now correct link: https://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/wikla/m.../wwwscalc.html By comparing Savarez's listed tensions, with other carbon strings of the same diameter, and also those of the calculator, I'm going to guess that Savarez's listed tension is more wrong than right.

http://www.daddario.com/DAstringtensionguide.Page The key factor is the unit weight, which is a property of the material. The unit weight of steel is much higher than nylon or carbon fiber. |
