Cut It to Size! Or Get Creative & DIY!
Aloha,
You can use scissors or an Exacto blade to cut a new larger pickguard to shape & install; Or... Order a pre-glued, clear plastic pickguard from lmi.com, shape wih sharp scissors, & install. Source plastic sheets at LMI.com or Stew-Mac.com. Or... You could make your own custom, distinctive, DIY fancy wooden burl (or any species) pickguard using 3M two-sided tape. No glue used for pickguards anymore, right Martin? Cut the 1/28" thick minimum veneer (from a veneer or luthier supply house) to shape. Sand both veneer sides very lightly & progressively through 120-600 grits. Bevel the edges smooth. Rag on some Duraseal oil/sealer (1-2 coats). Wait 2-3 days to dry. Buff it out gently with Hard Wax or Meguiars #10 Polish. Add 3M tape. Press it into place. Put a weight on it over night. Voila! Check with Etsy & other acoustic pickguard sites for ideas: https://www.etsy.com/market/pickguard https://www.etsy.com/listing/1044718...lery-3-3&frs=1 Source 3M tape at stew-mac.com: https://www.stewmac.com/luthier-tool...SABEgLzzPD_BwE Or - Have someone do it for you. Many options to express yourself DIY. Make it distinctive! Note: You really can't screw this up. It's not brain surgery. DIY! Be creative. Good Luck! alohachris Last edited by alohachris; 10-04-2021 at 08:21 PM. |
