I had Ed Bond to use EVO on my Halcyon OM. We also went with aged gold Gotoh tuning machines, strap button and ferrule for the jack. Very classy looking, if I must say so myself.

I think you'll like them! I sure love the ones on my CA Cargo and the 4 Tom Anderson electrics that I've owned! I also had a Gibson Les Paul R0 that had either stainless or titanium (I'm not sure which) frets put on before I bought it, and I really liked that LP.

While I have little experience with SS fret wire, I have had a guitar that I acquired over a year ago that has gold EVO frets and I liked it so much that I ordered those for my latest guitar. I did not notice any harshness in tone but then we all know that each guitar is different depending on lots of factors.

Best,
Jayne

Harder on tools. Harder to work. EVO gold is my choice, but it can be pretty hard too in the size I use (55090). Or at least that’s what builders tell me.

My CF guitars have SS frets. When I’m ready for a refret I’ll go with EVO Gold.

I had a Collings D3 that had the first five frets replaced with stainless steel. It was surprising how much harder and brighter the notes sounded on those frets compared to the higher ones. The owner didn’t disclose this when I got the guitar; I asked him if something had been done to those frets, and then he told me. It was different enough that my ear picked it out without prior knowledge.
