I've used the Heritage set on my D18 a couple of times and they sound great.
Then again so do the GHS Vintage Bronze at half the price.
Recently, I tried the Master Class Double Wound on my Eastman 00.
That was a fail. While the strings were very smooth to the touch and virtually noiseless, they killed the sustain and overtones. They sounded dull and lifeless. I feel they would be a great choice for an overly bright guitar.
My 00 has an Adirondack top and Mahogany back and sides and it loves Monels.

Well, even though this is a resurrected thread from almost 8 years ago, in case you are still lurking, I will answer your question. Yes, in my experience, Newtones are superior to Martin FX strings in feel, tone, and volume. Of course, they are more expensive than the FXs as well but worth it in my opinion.

Best,
Jayne
