Sort of a re-post from a few days ago but perhaps you may enjoy. ALMOST standard tuning (Dropped D) A forum member named TBman warned me! "You can get lost with this type of music" TBman was right. -I have been sucked in many, many hours since last Friday!

Exactly. Any note you need is already on your guitar, no matter what the tuning. Some tunings lend themselves more readily to picking some songs then others but it all can be handled in standard.
