No. Why would professional sports be a perfect world, when it exists no where else?

So how did it work? They orchestrated the crazy Edelman catch and the crazy Julio Jones catch just to keep it more interesting?

Great moments of athleticism.

How many moments in a game when a lineman doesn't charge at 100%? A defensive back slowing down that quarter of a step, a moment of hesitation.... Things that aren't obvious.

So when Foles took the Eagles to that SB win was also fixed? Backup qb taking his squad to the big dance and take it all. Yep, definitely fixed. Peyton Manning winning the super bowl right before retirement must’ve been a fix too. No? That’s right it’s only when the Patriots win.

You know why I doubt the super bowl in particular is unlikely to be fixed? Because the Patriots getting there so often is bad for business.

Throwing absurdities around doesn't diminish what someone else believes. One man's faith is another's tooth fairy. You would think they wouldn't fix the big game. I hope not, but sometimes things look off even to long time NFL fans.

But the Patriots coming back from a 25 point deficit on their own is absurd too right? You know what’s also absurd? Throwing for 505 yards and still lose the super bowl. The NFL is full of absurdities, that’s why the phrase “any given Sunday” and that’s what makes football so great.

Just about every super bowl game can be argued it was fixed. But it doesn’t make it true.

To someone watching pro ball since 1956 it did not.

But the Saints missed pass interference call did!

So you had 11 more years of being wrong than I have,

That missed PI is really upsetting and I'm not even a Saints fan!

There's a couple of thoughts that permeate this thread.

One is the bad referee non-call in the NFC game. Well there is a history in the NFL, and a few other leagues besides, that near the end of games and near the end of seasons, the refs kind of forget they have whistles. Kind of like 'let the players play' is their excuse, or maybe they don't want to make a call that determines who wins. Instead they just allow stuff to happen whether or not it's against the rules. Did anybody see the Eagle player who took out Chris Hogan during the last Patriot's play of the last SuperBowl? Certainly not the refs. Hogan was flattened at midfield while running toward the end zone. Much worse and more obvious than what happened in New Orleans a couple of weeks ago. Why do I mention this? Simply because Hogan was the guy that was closest to the Hail Mary when it came down. If he didn't have to get up off the ground, then maybe he might have caught that pass. But if you understand the 'let the players play' thing it's not surprising. Hey with all the frivolous side bets on things, bet on an announcer saying the refs are 'letting the players play' at some point during the game.

The other is the bad cess surrounding the Patriots. First off, I am a lifelong Patriots fan, having attended their first ever home game, which they lost. And they proceeded to lose in amazingly consistent fashion for most of the last century. Well they turned that corner this century. Having said that, I did notice that someone previously mentioned the "your team cheats" webpage. Did anybody actually check it out? Here's a link to their cheat list:

https://yourteamcheats.com/cheaters/

I can give you a spoiler that the Patriots are not at the top of the list. Why? Look at it and see who is. However the real interesting thing is that the NY Jets are number 2. Huh? How does that make sense? Read it and see. It still makes no sense, if only because they haven't profited by it. Spend some time with it, and the rest of the material on the site. The site states that every cheat listed is verifiable through neutral sources. It's actually interesting reading.

Oh yeah, I was also a Red Sox fan in the fifties when I was a kid. They were awful. Took them even longer to get better.

Don

I'm repeating myself, but officials DO second guess themselves, just ask the Detroit Lions in the playoffs (Rare for Detroit) against America's sweethearts, Dallas Cowboys, who were correctly called for pass interference.......the "Officials" talked it over quickly and then PICKED UP THE FLAG and declared no foul!

What do you know.........Dallas won the game!

Looks like this thread turned more into discussing anything but today's game.

Who's your pick for SB MVP? Going with Brady

When something is called "definitive" it is worth checking the background of the developers of the site. In addition, there is no detailed explanation of the metrics of how points are assigned or the severity scale. It is reported the site was developed by by two Patriot fans in the link below. As some might say take their "Definitive Guide" with a grain of salt.

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/n...-team-cheated/

Meanwhile, hope the game is a good one for those who plan to watch.
