Default NGD - 2018 Martin D-28 (2017)

Well, as you may have read here, I went today to choose from 4 different D-28's. It was quite an experience.

They had them all out of the boxes and waiting for me in their cases when I arrived. I spent the better part of 2 1/2 hours playing each one. I also had other guys play them so I could get out in front of them.

I was really surprised at how consistent this group of guitar were. The action was set up exactly the same, there weren't any big differences in loudness, tone, sustain, etc. The biggest differences was the grain patterns on each of them.

In spite of this, there was, again, one that grabbed me. I really can't tell you why. Perhaps I'm not experienced enough to put it into words. At any rate, I'm a very happy dude today.

Guess you want some pics huh?

Major props Tom on your new Martin D-28 ...great choice and that wood looks lovely. I'm a D-18 guy but, I've played a couple re-imagined D-28's and I really liked them. I found one in Tampa at my fav Sam Ash store and it was excellent and came close to pullin' the trigger. I think Martin hit the sweet spot for rosewood dreads here with forward shifted/non-scalloped braces, thus keeping a nice balance and flatter tonal eq. FS/scalloped works good on mahogany, but I prefer non-scalloped on rosewood.

I hope you have many wonderful years making music on this classic!

The new D-28 looks fantastic. The new appointments just look fantastic — it’s a really nice mix of all the various periods of that guitar’s history.

I played one last week — it was the second refreshed D-28 I’ve played — and I really liked it. I think I’m still after a D-18 but I did really like the 28. Martin has done a fantastic job updating their standard series.

Gorgeous! Congrats! Those reimagined 28s are FANTASTIC guitars. Few of us have the chance to sit for hours A/Bing four different ones. So it’s great to hear you confirm what a lot of us suspect...what comes off the Nazareth production line is consistently sweet.
