Default School me on the Fender family

I’ve been mauling around with the idea of getting a electric guitar again. I use to hav a few through the years but not for the past 5-6years although I’ve been playing acoustic for almost 20 now. Anyway, I’ve been thinking of everything from building one to buying one. Whatever I end up with I’d like it to b decent quality and playable I recently went into a pawn shop to nose around and noticed a Fender strat (I think) hanging up. I figured it was out of my price ranges but when I looked at it it had a price of $270 on it. I know they make some in Mexico now but this one said American made... so I’m wondering. Is this a good price? I always thought legit Fenders were more expensive but this one seemed “cheap” enough.

That’s probably a Squier with a USA Fender sticker. Check the hardware, fret edges, and overall fit and finish. You should spot a cheap one rather easily. If it looks decently put together then it’s probably a Mexican Fender. If it’s a MIM Strat, then $250 is a good price.

I would do some research first.. Check out Fender's site.
Also lots of Fenders on Reverb.com to get idea of prices.

If you see a particular model at a store..
Go ahead and shot a photo of it and also the serial #.
Which can usually be found on the headstock.
Or sometimes on the neck plate..

Here is a link to finding out more about their guitars.

Look on the back of the headstock for the 'Made in ____' info.

If you've gotten used to acoustics, the weight of a solidbody Strat or Tele may come as kind of a shock.

I'd suggest a semi-hollow thinline Tele like this

https://www.sweetwater.com/store/det...od-fingerboard

If that's out of your range try the Squier version

https://www.guitarcenter.com/Squier/...tric-Guitar.gc

Squiers can be quite good guitars (see the reviews in the GC link) but quality control can vary (true of a lot of brands, of course).
