Acoustics with 1.7X" nut widths
I sold my Seagull S6 Classic over the weekend, and maybe I'm having just a touch of seller's remorse. It was one of the Seagulls with the 1.72" nut width, and I'd wanted one with a 1.8" width. So, I bought a gently used one a few months ago, and no longer felt the need to keep this one.
So, that leaves in my guitar stable an S6 Original, a Dean Daytona with a 1.62" nut, and the Yamaha FG 700S at the GF's house with a 1.68" nut. Which acoustic guitars have nut widths in that 1.7X" range? I know that's not the be all/end all measurement, but I would like to be able to handle some and see how they feel. Sometimes, the Seagull seems a little too wide, and I'm not a small guy. I would entertain the idea of trying to buy back my S6 Classic, but the new owner seemed so happy to get it that I don't see that happening. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you, -William |

Gibson, Huss & Dalton, Bourgeois all have many models with 1.72".
Or roughly 1 23/32" nut widths. The E to E string spacing is roughly 1.5" measured at the nut. You can get this similar string spacing on some 1.75" nut width models. They have more margin of blank, available fretboard outside the E strings. |

The overwhelming majority of Gibson acoustics have a 1.72" nut. A few, such as the Keb' Mo Bluesmaster, are 1.805".

I originally bought the S6 Classic for $300, and sold it for $300. Keeping it close to that would be preferable. Used is perfectly ok as long as it's not used up. The Classic was in really good shape. Previous owner bought it new and didn't play it too much.

Alvarez Artist Series guitars mostly have 1.75" nuts, are great, and are in your price range (especially if used).

If you are not just looking at dreads, you can add to the list the current imported Guild OMs (OM-140-solid hog substitute, OM-150 solid rosewood) and (used) the New Hartford build F-30 stds. which all have 1.75 nuts.

Most Taylor's (not 100 or 200 series) have 1.75" nuts.

As a few have stated here, Alvarez. Nice guitars.
As you search for a guitar, look at many of them and read the specs on those guitars. And, look at more Seagulls. Most, I think, have that 1.75" spacing. The one Seagull that I like a lot is the Mini Jumbo.

WilliamTK1974, have a look at the Simon and Patrick. They are all 1.72" and available in a million combinations. I have one and it is a great guitar. Had it for over 20 years. Here is a link that shows the specs for each guitar.

Looks like the Alvarez AD60 comes with a 1.687 nut, which is too bad because it would be an easy thing to order from GC and return if it didn't suit.
Another one I remember in the Seagull family is A&L. I've seen used ones around here. |

All Gibson standard series acoustics have a 1.725" nut width. I believe this is unique to Gibson. That nut width and their string spacing hits a sweet spot for me.
As for the standard 1.75" (identical to 1 3/4") nut width: * Alvarez Artist series * Ibanez Artwood series * Martin US Standard Series (D18, D28), X series, Road Series. * Taylor: 300 series and up, most USA built Taylor's have 1 3/4" nut width, models built in Mexico (GS Mini, 100, 200, Academy, etc..) have 1 11/16" nut.
