Exactly. You did read it. I got the R16 in Wednesday, and it looks and feels great. I haven't gotten to really play with it yet but I'm looking forward to it as it was the best recorder:Interface:Controller I could find.

The Zoom R16 has everything except a nice hard drive. It does (obviously) record to a memory card and records 8 tracks at once and also serves as an interface to the computer for studio work. I bought one and it should be in on Thursday. What a pain. But, now the fun begins.
I recently purchased this model about 5 months ago and have been extremely pleased with it. I use it as a stand-alone, portable recorder, and as an interface with my laptop. The condenser mics built into the device are exceptional as well, in my opinion. It comes with Cubase LE 4 software as well.

It's been very easy to use, and while it does not have a built in hardrive, it can support a memory card of up to 32gb I believe. File transfer to PC is very easy as well.

I don't think you can go wrong with it, and honestly, it leaves you "room to grow" if you ever wanted to do more that you're planning to start out doing.
