They don't sound very good unplugged. Plugged in, not so bad.

If you want to play unplugged, don't buy a plywood guitar

I would look for a used guitar by a different manufacturer that would end up being better quality. From the shelf, the action on these are horrible.

Those ibanez's your looking at are nice looking but not very good acoustics - their OK for the money -but you will out grow them and be looking for something that sounds better inside of 6 months .Id go used and move up a few notches -Taylor, Martin -etc. Put your hands on what ever your looking buying and dont buy a guitar you cant play at least until you know more about what you want - looks shouldnt be one of them. and color is another is another thing that would be my last concern .

I've owned the Taylor 110 and played/almost bought the Yamaha FG730S. My 2 cents is that you should buy the yamaha fg730s, install a bone saddle, and install a pickup. You will spend very little and have a really sweet sound/playing rig.

I've played a lefty AEL-20E and I was frankly disappointed in it. I was helping my son-in-law shop for a beginner acoustic guitar. I liked the Yamaha that I tried and it was a little less money too. Turns out my son-in-law ended up buying an even cheaper Ibanez the next day and it sound like crap. oh well.

Anyhow, I'd go for a Yamaha in the price range you're looking at.

I get the feeling you're looking specifically for a red guitar, and as such the suggestions above may be not exactly what you're looking for. There is a guy on here who has a "red guitar collection" maybe he'll show up and offer some good suggestions. While color isn't the greatest aspect to use to limit your choices, if that is what you want then that's what you want.

Never buy a guitar based on color!

Look for a nice used solid wood guitar in the classifieds with your budget.

I don't know about red, but I know of a few songs which talk about a blue guitar. So maybe there is something about the color.

Buying a guitar is an emotional experience, normally I buy the one that speaks to me. So if red is your thing, so be it. Buy what makes you happy and don't worry about what other people think.
