Default Photomat's Three Greven's...(photos of course)

I just received an AMAZING sounding Greven J-35v from wstudio1 here of AGF (great guy to deal with by the way!). Thanks Brian!

This makes my third Greven, and today was my first chance to play them side by side. What a treat! I also photographed them doing a ton of each one and a few of them together. Here are the ones of them together. I will post more of the individuals after the weekend.

LEFT to RIGHT:
Greven Nick Lucas Madagascar/Engelmann
Greven Prairie State White Lady Cocobollo/Bearclaw Spruce
Greven J-35v Mahogany/Adirondack

I plan to do quite of bit of playing this weekend! John Greven makes the lightest and most amazing sounding guitars!

I agree, great pics, great guitars and a great builder! John is a friend and I consider him one of my early mentors. He is a kind, compassionate and sharing man. You have a truly marvelous collection from one of the best builders of this present golden age of lutherie. A hearty congrats!

That's a great trio you have there...and great photos too (no surprise there). Love the spider!

Do you still have any Larrivees or just the Grevens?

John is also a fine picker. We've played a few rounds of Old Joe Clark in his living room

He certainly is! I had the privilege of meeting John at a "holy grail" gathering a couple of summers ago in northeast Portland. I really felt blessed to be able to meet him, play a couple of his guitars, chat with him, and hear him play. He truly is a quality guy in every respect.

Matt, those are some very fine looking guitars! And of course, great photos! Did you have any of those when I visited you? Did I play that Nick Lucas one? Looks familiar... I should know, of course...

Regards, Glenn

BillyBoy...Thanks...These are some real gems! As it turned out, I won't be able to touch the guitars until tomorrow night. My fingers get one day's rest! Glad to hear from you.

Thanks Dodge and taylork24ce...I shot these with a nikon D700 and 80-200 2.8. These were taken at my photography studio (my main business)

Thanks Tim...yes these are real special guitars. John is a gifted guy indeed.

Eric, I hope to meet you one day...now I really need to go to Portland and meet John and you!

Dotneck...still have the Forum III Mahogany/IS. Fun guitar that is so easy to play thanks to Jim Holler's set up. I also have a couple of Larrivee Electrics.

Glenn, I must not have had these out that day. I looked back at the photos and see that I had the Gibson L-00 out. I would love to hear how the J-35 sounds next to your Collings. Let me know if you get up this way again, and we will have to get together. I seem to remember reading you picked up a SCom/pw??? Where did you find one around here???

Very nice. As always I have guitar envy Matt. Hopefully I'll be able to see them in person at some point.

Hi Matt,

I bought a SCGC OM/PW from Tarpman (LA Guitar Sales) long distance. It worked out very nicely once I got strings on the guitar that I liked.

Let me know if you plan any get-togethers.

That's a great selection of guitars you have there! Nice variety to choose from, and a superb builder to boot. Love those burst finishes - and the J35V seems like the perfect foil to the Lucas and Prairie State. Thanks for posting!
