Default Small towns you like

What are some small towns that you like visiting or would like to see? Lunenburg, Nova Scotia is a small town with a lot of character. Great ship building and fishing history and now tourism. Some TV shows filmed here too (Haven). The town is also known for it's colorful buildings.

Lunenburg is 60 miles (100 km) from Halifax and 15 miles (23 km) from Oak Island - that's where the show about the Money Pit and digging for treasure is filmed.

Grand Marais, Minnesota - north shore of Lake Superior, last town of any appreciable size before you get to Canada up Highway 61 (yes, that one).

We love this place. We've vacationed up here every year for a couple of decades, and this year will be no exception.

I live in a small coastal town halfway between Melbourne and Sydney.
Eden, New South Wales.

The main wharf in this picture is undergoing extension work to allow passengers to embark/disembark from large cruise liners.

Yeah Dru, Lunenburg is an absolutely beautiful place. I’ve been there a number of times, both as a kid when I lived (born) in Halifax, and since, when we travel there to visit family (my sister lives there).

I grew-up hearing about the treasure mystery of Oak Island including the boobytraps of the original shaft network, so I am intrigued by the show. It’s slow moving for sure, but I hope they find something of significant value...before they go bankrupt or tear-up that Island beyond recognition!

I've been to Oak Island a few times ... well, I didn't drive across the causeway because it's private land but it's cool to be just off the island and know the history.

Ouray Colorado is a cool little place - not too far from Telluride as the crow flies. Stayed there a couple times when hiking up Mt Sneffels.

A few years ago I did a guitar deal with a guy in a tiny town (about 850) in Southwestern North Carolina called Hayesville. Every since, I've been wanting to spend a weekend there and look around for a potential retirement spot. Sits on the banks of Lake Chatuge and also looking up into the foothills of the Smokies. They have a nice golf course (with a nice health club!) and a cool performance venue. Might even head down there this spring.

I'm with OP Dru Edwards, Lunenburg NS is lovely. I like Greenfield NS as well.

Also on my list would be Wiarton, Lion's Head, and Minden Ontario, and just about anywhere on Prince Edward Island.

I'm a big-city guy so small town's don't do it for me very long. As small cities go, I really like Bruges Belgium. Great city and people. At 120,000 - that's about as small as I can take very long. I still spend a fair amount of time scuba diving around the world and most places I go are very small towns or countries. If not for the diving, I wouldn't be there.

Dru - as I remember it, there is a sign by the docks in Lunenberg that mentions how many of the founders came from my neck of the woods in Connecticut. They were loyalists to the king (during our revolution)and were driven away from their farms in the towns of Burlington, Thomaston and Plymouth, Connecticut. For many months, they stayed in an area known as ‘Tory’s Den’ before they made the move north.

It really brought home the tragedy of this war, as neighbor was pitted against neighbor (That’s a subject that’s often a very small sidebar in our history books). Fortunately, the refugees found a really nice spot in NS! Looks like they did pretty well for themselves, too.
