Since becoming a home owner I have become a fan of Home Advisor.
Though I’m learning to do the “small stuff” my self, it’s nice having contractors come to you for the bigger jobs, without all the hard sell attitude. Within an hour of posting your job you can have contracters contacting you for a site visit. Though i shop at Lowe’s and/or Home Depot I’m not sure I want them to do work on my house, when I can get quality work down for less, and support the local contractor.

Home Depot just use local installers (they are not Home Depot employees) they have contracted - obviously some are better than others.
Then again, some (smaller) local carpet places may source their actual carpet from HD or Lowes (with a contractor discount). You can measure the rooms yourself, put a simple floorplan diagram together for a quote (it will be close to final quote), then once you decide on it have them come and do the actual measurements.
