Thanks Ray, the kid got an envelope filter for Christmas a year or two ago. We will post one with the new guitar and that pedal at some point. Life is revving up again and unfortunately we are finding less time to play and record.

I did get to listen to your Mississippi half step cover and thought it was great.

Good reminder Sal. It's back up, warts and all, in post #60, bottom of the previous page...

Good job on a tricky song, Ray! That’s not an easy one, at least for me. Enjoyed it!

Default New Minglewood Blues

Here’s my latest after a nice dinner and a glass of wine at the end of a long week. I really should play the slide more than once a year, but as Sal says “warts and all”

Enjoyed it the second time too Ray. Warts and all is all we got. The problem I have found with being a perfectionist is that I’m constantly unsuccessful at perfection.

Sounded good to me Bob. You somehow morphed as a vocalist into someone who can actually SELL "my number one occupation is stealing women from their men"! I don't think I'd have had the testicular fortitude to put that out on the public airways! Seriously, sounded good. The slide is uneven, some really good, some kind of stumbling, but as someone who's never spent more than five minutes playing slide, it sounded pretty impressive to me... And, hey, I was going to Dead shows when Bobby decided it would be a good idea to convert most of his rhythm playing to slide playing and figure out how to do that on tour. His slide playing all but ruined a number of otherwise pretty fine shows back in '78. I'd say YOU'RE doing fine with it!

Thanks Joe. Yeah, I'm pretty bad at perfection too. I'm also far from a perfectionist, but sometimes I record something and after the endorphins from the process wear off (I really get a buzz from the recording process and usually think everything sounds good right after I finish it...) and I listen to it a couple days later and I just feel like, "I can do that one better than that". I've re-recorded a number of things before I ever put them on Soundcloud and a few things after, and replaced the files. If I was even close to a perfectionist, you'd have probably never heard anything of mine! I'll no doubt take another shot at "Half Step" at some point. If I like it better, I might pull the old one and put up the new one. If I don't, it'll go on the scrap heap.

A really nice thing about this thread is hearing songs I hadn't played in a long time and then revisiting them myself. AND, hearing stuff I'd never thought to play and now starting to. I'd never attempted to play New Minglewood Blues, probably because I didn't think I could keep a straight face with the vocal, but after hearing Bob's version, I pulled it up on my iPad and started playing it last night and it's a BLAST! Really fun little song to play. I don't know if I'll ever record it - I might just to give myself a chance to play some electric lead on it - but I still don't think I could sing it with a straight face. No danger of hearing it here, but thanks for waking me up to a new one to play, Bob. Really a fun song, great and easy rhythm... I can't play slide but it's fun to jam over with an electric - I played the verse into my looper and let it run and it's fun to jam to.

Ray, thanks for your comments on New Minglewood Blues. It sure is a lot of fun to play, despite a sketchy lyric and some inconsistent slidling by the real Bob and myself Got to love 4 chords and one riff! Glad you discovered it, the thread has been a lot of fun!
