Hi Drathbun. First, lovely playing.
Second, your Martin sounds gorgeous with both sets of strings.
Third, I'm a fan of the Retros and I prefer them to the Elixirs.
I would never think to compare these 2 sets of strings...
Thank you for the excellent demo.

Curt Mangan also has monel in hex core (I have not tried them). However, I had a set of the CM round core monels on my Martin DJr 2 and they were very, very nice!

I have found a shop in Switzerland Europe, and I have just order three set of Monel round core 12-53.
If they are better then Martin Retro that I have tried today, I will be very happy.

I'd be interested to hear your feedback on those. Love the Martin Retros, but the Magnans sound fatter and feel silkier to me. I would also be curious to know if anyone has compared the Magnan round vs hex core monels, and whether the hex cores are more like the Retros.

Agreed. In my experience it takes Retros two or three days to hit their stride.

I’ll try , but I return in the world of acoustic guitar after may time .
I don’t know if I’ll be able to make sample, I haven’t at now a decent microphone and built in piezo is not ideal to listen differences .
I’ll make a sample with an iPad, but quality would be low.

Newtone have round core Monels too, which I might try a set of whenever the Martin Retro medium set on my Kalamazoo dies.

I haven't tried the CM round cores, but I did try the the hex.

Compared to the Retros, the CM's were harder sounding. They had an edge to them that I didn't care for. This was on a J45.

Regarding sound have you hear differences in some range of freq bass , mid or treeble?

I ordered a few sets of these, but they got canceled...out of stock?

You might have better luck finding Newtone - make sure they are the monel wrap, and not the nickel plated steel!

The Mangan round cores are likely "rounder" in sound than the hex cores. I would consider them to be one of the fatter, warmer sets I have tried.

Great choice! The Mangan RC/Monel are my latest go-to these days, besides Titaniums on my dread.

I am in US - but Newtone are from England - ordered direct (but got the wrong ones last time). I order the Curt Mangan also direct from Mangan.
