Default Be Thou My Vision - from new Hymn Book

I just published a book of Hymns for Fingerstyle Guitar - 25 hymns in standard tuning, and shot this video to share one of the tunes and also as a lesson on embellishing simple tunes, which is the approach I took in the book.

I'm a guitar playing pastor. This is the kind of book I need for both personal skill building and for my job.

Ordered!

Thanks for this wonderful resource, Doug.

Doug!

This is awesome! You are not only a very effective guitar playing entrepreneur, you are also a terrific teacher and skilled player.

I downloaded the free mp3 performances and just ordered your book from Amazon just now.

What a terrific idea! And you put in the work to make this happen, just like you did with your "Understanding DADGAD" book!

Good for you, Doug! My hat is off to you! This is terrific!

Doug,

I've been listening to your recordings and am wondering who made the guitar you are playing. It sounds wonderful with you playing it!

Just curious...

Most of them were recorded with my Kent Hamblin CG, the same guitar I'm using in the video. I used a Claxton EM on a couple of the recordings, but I didn't keep track of which ones, and I doubt I'd be able to tell from listening.

The Hamblin is my oldest guitar these days, and seems to be a pretty early build of Kent's, under his name at least.

Great job Doug! Beautiful guitar playing

Your arrangement brings to mind the CD 'Hymns for Guitar' by Steve Hunter. Have you heard it? It's a drastic departure from his iconic electric lead work with Lou Reed and Alice Cooper!

Hunter plays lovely acoustic guitar too. His CD is worth a listen. (If you have an Amazon Prime membership you can stream it .)

I have had the book for a week or so now, and this definitely deserves a bump. Playing this song on a Martin dread with a capo on the second fret tonight, and my wife walked by and commented “sounds just like a piano”. thanks Doug!
